The thread lift procedure originated in Korea more than 20 years ago and is used to restore the youthful features of the face. The biggest advantage of a thread lift over a traditional face lift is the absence of visible scars and the very short downtime. The procedure is performed by a doctor in clinic in under an hour under local anaesthesia and it’s a great no surgical alternative to the traditional facelift.
What is a thread lift?
The thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure which uses a specialised thread positioned in specific areas of the face to lift the eyebrows, sagging skin on the cheeks, reduce marionette lines, define the jawline, reduce the ‘roundness’ of the face and lift lax skin on the neck.
The threads used in the procedure are made of polydiaxanone, the same material used in common surgical procedures. This material is 100% bio-compatible and absorbable and has long been used in surgical procedures with no adverse effects.
The thread lift has many benefits, including;
Immediate natural looking results which will improve over a period of 2-6 months as new collagen grows, further lifting and tightening the skin.
Rejuvenating action for gradual natural looking results, as the threads re-absorb natural collagen growth is boosted, resulting in further definition of the facial features being treated.
The results of the thread lift last between 1.5 year to 3 years. The longevity of the procedure will vary from patient to patient depending on your age at the time of treatment, quality of the skin being treated, the degree of sagging and the number of threads used.
How is the procedure performed?
The procedure involves making a small incision in key locations and inserting a thin threaded needle under the skin to anchor both ends to lift and suspend the skin. To ensure comfort during the procedure a local anaesthetic is administered at the incision point. The procedure generally takes around an hour to complete and you can return back to normal activities after treatment.
What can you expect after the procedure?
Depending on how many threads are used during the procedure there will be swelling and minimal bruising which can be covered with makeup. Swelling and bruising will settle within seven days. Downtime is minimal and many clients return back to their normal activities within 24 hours, however physical exercise is not recommended within 48 hours of treatment.
Who is the right candidate for a thread lift?
The ideal candidate for a thread lift is people who have begun to see sagging in the midface, bags under the eyes, jowls or laxity on the skin of the neck. The most common age for people seeking a thread lift is men and women aged between 35 to 45, although the thread lift can be performed on anyone from any age, mid to late 20’s right through to the 60’s or 70’s.
