Interested? I’ve put together a list of some of the most commonly asked questions about laser hair removal and answered them all for you below!

What can I expect on my first treatment?
Before your first treatment you will need a short 15 minute consultation with one of our technicians. This is needed to assess your skin and hair type, assess your suitability for treatment and discuss how to prep your skin for the best possible result. If you require a treatment on the day of your consultation, this can be arranged. It is imperative that you do not wax or use depilatory creams beforehand, but you should shave the area you would like treated between 1-2 days before your appointment.

Can laser hair removal be performed on darker skin tones?
Yes, ND-YAG medical grade laser offers safe and effective hair reduction for patients with darker skin types.

Can laser hair removal be used on any hair colour?
No, unfortunately blonde, red and grey hairs cannot be picked up with laser. This is because there is not enough melanin in the hair follicle. Laser works best with darker hair types because of this.

So how does laser hair removal work?
The laser light is directed at and gets absorbed by the pigment in the hair itself which sits in the follicle. When the laser gets absorbed it creates heat and if enough heat is generated down the hair follicle it will destroy the hair growth centre within the follicle.

Will laser hair removal help with ingrowns?
Yes, it can as the hair removal treatment removes the root of the hair in the follicle.

How many treatments are needed?
Face and body hair goes through 3 growth stages. A resting, transition and growth cycle which is why a series of treatments are needed and to be spaced out. It’s at the growth stage we need the hair for best results. A minimum of 6 to 12 treatments depending on the individual. And spacing them out 4-8 weeks depending on the area.

Can I have fake tan on before laser hair removal?
Definitely not. Fake tan is not recommended as fake tan increases pigment in the skin and can confuse the machine. It also puts you at risk of adverse reactions and can cause for a very painful laser hair removal treatment. If you come to appointment and present with fake tan we will have to re-schedule your appointment. Your safety is important to us.

What should I expect post treatment?
You might notice slight redness and swelling for the first few hours after laser hair removal. To reduce any discomfort, you can apply ice to the treated area if needed. It’s important to avoid sun exposure and to use an SPF daily after and between scheduled laser hair removal treatment sessions.
